Armed robbers kill vigilance group’s member, injure three policemen

A GROUP of suspected armed robbers
yesterday launched an attack at AA Rano
Filling Station around Federal Low-Cost
Road in Bauchi metropolis killing a vigilance
group member and injuring three
policemen.
  It was gathered that two members of the
vigilance group were guarding the filling
station when the armed bandits launched
the attack, killing one of them while his
colleague managed to escape unhurt.
When contacted, the Bauchi State Police
Commissioner, Mohammed Ladan who
confirmed the incident to newsmen, said
the policemen were injured during a gun
battle with the bandits.
He said: “The hoodlums first attacked the
filling station where they killed the vigilante
and immediately we received distress calls
from the public on the attack, we deployed
our men to the scene but when the robbers
sighted our men, they started shooting and
we responded immediately and during the
exchange of fire, three policemen sustained
minor injuries.
The Commissioner said the armed robbers
abandoned their vehicles and escaped with
bullet wounds adding that police has
commenced investigation into the attack as
well as cordoned off the area in search of
the hoodlums that escaped with bullet
wounds.
  Items recovered from the armed robbers,
according to Ladan, include one Ak 47 rifle,
two pistols and over 100 ammunition.
He called on the public as well as
management staff of various hospitals in
the state to assist the police with
information on any patient with bullet
wounds.
A security source who spoke to The
Guardian on condition of anonymity said
the armed robbers carted away huge
amounts of money from the filling station.
He said the suspects abandoned their
vehicle that they parked behind Games
Village, which is about two kilometres to
the filling station, adding that the
abandoned vehicle was stained with blood.
