Sept 11 in America

With the 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks coming up Wednesday,
various events around the Boston metro area have been planned to commemorate
and remember the fallen. Here is a list of some of Wednesday’s events:
7 a.m.-2 p.m. —Day of Remembrance blood drive at Fenway Park, Gate D. Donors
will receive a goodie bag, and the World Series trophies will be on display.
7:30 a.m. — Wreath-laying ceremony in the Boston Public Garden. Mayor Thomas
M. Menino is expected to attend.
8:30 a.m. —Flag lowering, moment of silence, and reading of victims’ names on the
Massachusetts State House lawn.
8:50 a.m. — A memorial service with Junior Air Force ROTC members will occur in
front of Lowell High School.
9:30 a.m. — Commemoration of September 11 victims and Madeline Amy Sweeney
Award for Civilian Bravery presentation at Memorial Hall in the State House.
11 a.m.-2 p.m. — Military Heroes Fund volunteer event to assemble 1,000 care
packages at the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway. Five hundred packages will be
assembled for Massachusetts soldiers across the world; the other 500 will be
delivered to local homeless veterans. Governor Deval Patrick, Attorney General
Martha Coakley, and Mayor Menino are expected to give remarks around 1 p.m.
TBD — Two hundred and fifty bikers left Ground Zero in New York City on Sunday,
and will arrive at the Boston Marathon finish line on Wednesday in honor of the
victims of the Sept. 11 attacks, the Boston Marathon bombings, and slain MIT police
officer Sean Collier.
7 p.m.-9 p.m. — Attorney Kenneth Feinberg will discuss his experiences as special
master for the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund as well as his role as the
One Fund Boston administrator at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and
Museum.
